I always say that the best way to treat an infection is to prevent it from occurring in the first place. And the same goes with tonsil stones.
Given their pretty disgusting appearance, horrible smell and painful symptoms, tonsil stones are definitely an infection you want to avoid. Now this isn’t always easy, because your tonsils are all the way at the back of your throat, and that food passes by them on a regular basis, it can be difficult to keep them clean of bacteria and debris.
Which is where the infection is caused.
In order to help you combat this I’ve listed a couple of home remedies below that have been proven to be very effective. They’re all homemade with ingredients found in almost all supermarkets so everyone should be able to use them.
Thanks to a compound found within the herb (Allicin), garlic can be great at fighting off harmful bacteria and could even help in breaking down the tonsil stones. This is because Allicin promotes antibacterial properties.
The most effective way to release Allicin from the garlic is to chop it up into small chunks. Therefore the best way to take the garlic to treat tonsil stones is to eat on it raw. This might not be the most appealing thing in the world but if it helps get rid of your infection then I think it’s well worth it.
In theory you could chop small garlic up and add it to a glass of water to gargle. This should still work so it’s up to you.
If you’re prone to tonsil stones they you’ll be best consuming the garlic, whichever way you want, at least once per day.
Contained within this herb is a volatile oil called Commiphora molmol. This oil has been studied and has been shown to have antibacterial and antifungal properties which is why it has been used to treat many oral infections. Such as tonsillitis, mouth ulcers and gingivitis.
Because of these properties it can also be helpful in treating tonsil stones.
In order to take Myrrh it’s best to do so by adding some to a glass of water and gargle. Make sure to do so for about 15 seconds each sip and keep your head tilted slightly back, this makes sure the mixture reaches your tonsils.
This should be done every day if you want to prevent tonsil infection.
Apple Cider Vinegar
As most of you probably know, apple cider vinegar is known as a modern day super food. Due to a variety of healthy properties, ACV can help you treat and cure infections, many of reside in the gums and throat.
The same goes for tonsil stones. Thanks to its antibacterial and antifungal properties, ACV will be able to help you fight off the harmful bacteria that causes their growth in the first place. All you would do is add tablespoon of some to a glass of water and begin swirling it around your mouth.
Just like with the Myrrh, gargle for about 15 seconds each sip and keep your head back making sure the solution covers your tonsils. Afterwards clean your mouth out with some clean water.
So now you know how to get rid of tonsil stones at home. In most cases it’s just fighting off the bacteria that causes them in the first place so taking advantage of these three remedies can be very helpful.
Just make sure you keep good care of your oral health and I’m sure tonsil stones will become less and less of a problem.
